In Elden Ring’s dangerous, poisonous swamp — the region called Caelid — you’ll run into a giant jar standing guard outside of a castle. This character is not-so-subtly named The Great-Jar, and you’ll likely see them for the first time from a cliff face overlooking where he sits, just next to the minor Erdtree to the west.
This jar takes some time to reach, and has a difficult challenge for you once you arrive. But his reward, the powerful Great-Jar Arsenal Talisman, is more than worth the trouble.
In this guide, we’ll tell you how to reach The Great-Jar and why you should accept his challenge.

The Great-Jar is in northern Caelid, resting in front of the semi-circle castle at the top of the region’s map. If you try to jump down to them from the Minor Erdtree or anywhere else, you’ll die instantly. If you want to reach The Great-Jar, you have to follow a specific path.
Go down to the Siofra River Well (which you can enter via an elevator next to the Minor Erdtree in Mistwood) and travel north as far as you can on the lower level. Eventually you’ll come across an elevator, which will take you into The Great-Jar’s chasm. Ride it up.
Once back in Caelid, follow the path forward, killing the giants with bows along the way. When you reach The Great-Jar, talk to them.
The Great-Jar’s challenge and reward
After talking to the Great-Jar (they will only ever respond with “…”), turn around and look behind you. You’ll see three summon signs on the ground. Each of these will summon an NPC with the title “Knight of the Great Jar,” and each will use a random loadout from a random player.
You need to defeat all three of these AI players one at a time. You won’t be able to leave or refill your flasks at a site of grace between them. If you die, you’ll have to run through the chasm again.
Because this battle is so random, you won’t be able to prepare much. But that also means you should eventually get some enemies with loadouts that are weak to yours. Keep at it and you’ll eventually take down all three. You can make fights easier by going offline, as it won’t pull from real player’s more optimized builds.
When you finish the battle, talk to The Great-Jar, who will give you the Great-Jar’s Arsenal Talisman. This Talisman increases your Max Equip Load by 19%, making it very good for medium weight players who want to wear more defensive armor pieces.
